What Is the AbbVie Community Equity Scholarship?

The AbbVie Community Equity Scholarship supports students currently enrolled in accredited two-year community colleges who are pursuing a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university in the U.S. for the upcoming academic year.

The program focuses on students from designated counties in Massachusetts and prioritizes applicants who demonstrate academic promise, leadership potential, and financial need.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

  • Be a current undergraduate student

  • Reside in and/or attend an accredited two-year community college in one of the following Massachusetts counties:

    • Middlesex

    • Norfolk

    • Suffolk

    • Worcester

  • Be pursuing a STEM-related degree

  • Plan to transfer to an accredited four-year college or university in the United States for the entire upcoming academic year

  • Be a first-generation college student
    (Neither parent has earned an Associate degree or higher)

Ineligible Applicants

Children or grandchildren of employees of AbbVie Bioresearch Center, Inc. or any of its affiliates are not eligible to apply.

Selection Criteria

Scholarship recipients are selected based on the following factors:

  • Academic performance

  • Leadership qualities and involvement in school or community activities

  • Work experience

  • A written statement outlining educational and career goals

  • Unusual personal or family circumstances

  • One online letter of recommendation

  • Demonstrated financial need (required)

This is a one-time award. Previous recipients are not eligible to reapply.

  • A current and complete official transcript
    (Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must include the student’s name, institution name, course grades, and credit hours.)

  • A copy of the FAFSA Submission Summary

  • One online recommendation form, submitted no later than
    January 16, 2026, at 3:00 PM (Central Time)
